Cycling is an activity that involves riding of bicycles often over rough terrain. This activity requires bike handling skills, endurance, core strength, balance, self-reliance with specifically designed bicycles.


Due to increasing demand for cycling, Tanzania national park has introduced this activity in Arusha national park and Kilimanjaro National Park. This activity provides physical exercise and recreational use of the natural environment with minimum impact while enhancing visitors’ experience.


The activity is done with an experienced park guide who will help you to spot different animals, birds, visit the local communities among others.


There are so many things you can do with a mountain bike in Tanzania.


From a short 3-hour ride around Arusha, to a 6-day tour to Kilimanjaro  and everything in between!


TIMING OF THE ACTIVITY


  • Cycling shall be carried out during the day, between 6.30 am and 6:00 pm

  • For Mount Kilimanjaro summiting must strictly be done from 11:00 am and 6:00 pm

PARKS

Arusha National Park

Cycling routes are the Ngongongare to Momella gate via Naggy-trappe route around the Ngurdoto crater. Total distance: 21 km (7 hrs).

Inside Arusha National Park, where you might get to see different animals such as giraffes, monkeys, buffaloes, zebras, and various bird species. During your ride, you will be accompanied by an armed ranger and a support vehicle to ensure safety.

Mount Kilimanjaro National Park

Summit bound visitors will use Kilema route (19 km) and porters will use the Marangu route a day in advance. Cyclists will meet their porters at Horombo. Porters are not allowed on this route.

For non summit bound visitors (Kilimanjaro National Park), cycling may start from Londorosi gate or from Morum Picnic site via Shira I to Cathedral then back to Morum picnic site via rescue road to Londorosi gate (44.7 km)

Lake Manyara National Park

Experience local cultures from your bike on a 3-5 hours mountain bike ride through the farming village of Mto Wa Mbu. You'll visit local farms, schools, churches, milling machines, a local bar and enjoy the sights and sounds of this vibrant village. Cycle to the lake shore where there are stunning vistas of the lake, the Rift Valley Wall and small herds of wildlife.

The ride is on fairly flat single tracks outside of the National Park. Ideal to do on the way in or out of Manyara National Park.
